Dhaka, 16 Jul (V7N)- Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that although religious divisions are often created in Bangladeshi politics, the people of the country do not support such divisions.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Sri Sri Jagannath Dev Rath Yatra festival at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness temple in Swamibag, Dhaka, on Thursday afternoon (July 16).

The minister said that a “special evil force” has repeatedly attempted to create instability in Bangladesh since 1971, and he called for collective resistance against such efforts.

Claiming that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party does not believe in religious discrimination, Mirza Fakhrul said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has gained popularity among people from different religious communities because of an inclusive political approach.

He further stated that Tarique Rahman has set an example by ensuring representation of people from different faiths among women members of parliament.

During the event, the Local Government Minister also said that the government has introduced allowances for religious institution leaders from different communities as part of its support for religious establishments.

The Rath Yatra festival was attended by religious leaders, devotees, and political representatives, with speakers emphasizing communal harmony and peaceful coexistence.
