Dhaka, Jul 16 (V7N)- Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has announced that trees will be planted at all locations where the Bangladesh Army is stationed, including cantonments across the country, as part of a nationwide afforestation initiative.

He made the announcement while inaugurating the Army's tree plantation campaign in the Nirjhar area of Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday (July 16) morning.

The Army Chief said that, as in previous years, the Bangladesh Army has undertaken various programs to expand afforestation across the country. He noted that the Army's responsibility does not end with planting trees but also includes ensuring their proper care and growth.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman said the Army remains committed to contributing to environmental protection and combating the impacts of climate change.

As part of this year's campaign, the Bangladesh Army plans to plant 1.1 million trees nationwide.

The theme of the 2026 tree plantation campaign is "Beautify the Country Through Tree Plantation, Bangladesh First."
