Dhaka, Sep 28 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that this year’s Durga Puja will be celebrated peacefully across Bangladesh, dismissing fears of unrest. He, however, warned that “neighboring countries and fascist collaborators” may attempt to spread rumors to create confusion.

Speaking to reporters after a Core Committee meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday, the Advisor emphasized the need to counter disinformation.

“False and misleading information on social media should be prevented, and the public must be provided with accurate information,” he said.

To ensure security, the government has mobilized a massive force:

  • 100,000 armed forces personnel nationwide

  • 70,000 police members

  • 430 platoons of BGB and other auxiliary forces

  • Volunteers from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs

He stressed that any attempt to instigate communal violence or spread rumors around the festival would be met with strict action.

On the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections, Jahangir Alam reiterated Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s statement that the polls will be held in February 2026, even as he attends programs abroad. The Home Ministry is already working on necessary preparations to ensure a safe and credible election.

Regarding the Khagrachari incident, he informed that Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Advisor Supradeep Chakma has held meetings with all parties to resolve tensions.
