Khulna, Aug 24 (V7N) – Khulna division has recorded 215 new dengue cases across hospitals in the last 24 hours, with health officials reporting a critical shortage of hospital beds as admissions continue to surge .
Of the new patients, 181 were admitted to government hospitals and 34 to private facilities. No new dengue-related death was reported during the period, leaving the death toll at 16 .
Khulna Divisional Health Director Dr Sheikh Md Mosharraf Hossain said 4,604 dengue cases have been recorded in the division since January 1. Of them, 3,942 patients have recovered, while around 575 are currently receiving treatment at government and private hospitals .
Khulna district has recorded the highest number of cases in the division, with 1,462 infections so far. At present, 231 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals there. At Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), 144 dengue patients are currently receiving treatment. The figures are 104 in Bagerhat, 45 in Jashore, 12 in Jhenaidah and eight in Satkhira, with patients also being treated in other districts .
KMCH Superintendent Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said the hospital is struggling to accommodate the rising number of patients. "The number of dengue patients coming to the hospital every day is much higher than our available bed capacity," he said, adding that the situation has become so severe that there is no space even in the hospital corridors to accommodate additional patients .
Meanwhile, most government and private hospitals in Khulna are facing an acute shortage of vacant beds as dengue admissions continue to increase. The inadequate bed capacity is making it difficult for many patients to secure hospital admission .
Nationwide, three more dengue deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, raising the total fatalities to 85 this year, with 994 new hospitalisations recorded across the country .
