New York, Aug 24 (V7N)- BNP and its affiliated organisations in North America are preparing a two-week programme around Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's planned visit to New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to party sources, the preparations are aimed at welcoming Tarique Rahman on September 21 and organising various programmes throughout his stay in New York.

A joint virtual meeting of BNP and its affiliated organisations was held on Sunday, where central and local leaders discussed the proposed programmes and distributed responsibilities among leaders.

The meeting was chaired by BNP Central International Secretary and North America Coordinator Anwar Hossain. BNP National Executive Committee members Abdul Latif Samrat, Zillur Rahman Zillu, Gias Ahmed and Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan Milton also addressed the meeting.

Leaders of BNP's New York State and metropolitan units, as well as representatives of its affiliated organisations, also participated in the discussion.

The meeting decided that BNP leaders and activists would remain active with various programmes throughout the Prime Minister's stay in New York.

As part of the programme, a large peace rally has been planned in front of the United Nations headquarters on September 24. BNP leaders and activists in different areas of New York will conduct public outreach to ensure a large gathering at the rally.

Responsibilities for mobilising supporters from different areas have already been distributed among party leaders, according to participants.

Party sources said Tarique Rahman is scheduled to travel to New York on September 21 to attend the UN General Assembly. He is expected to address the General Assembly on September 24 and attend a civic reception on September 25.

BNP sources also said 11 meetings were held between July 23 and August 21 involving former leaders of US BNP, senior leaders of various North American organisations and central leaders of affiliated bodies to discuss preparations for the visit.

The planned activities include welcome programmes, peace rallies, public outreach and other events during the Prime Minister's stay in New York.

The meeting decided that the final programme for the visit will be announced on August 30 in the presence of BNP leaders and activists from different parts of North America.
