Dhaka, Sep 14 – Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of legendary folk singer Farida Parveen, who died on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka. She was 73.

In a condolence message issued from the Chief Advisor’s Office, Dr. Yunus described Parveen as the true “Lalonkanya” of Bangladesh. “Despite singing various types of songs including Nazrul and patriotic songs, Farida Parveen was best known for her Lalon songs. For more than five decades, her voice brought the philosophy of Lalon Sai to life and touched the hearts of people across the country,” he said.

The Chief Advisor noted that Parveen never distanced herself from music despite facing adversities. “Her passion for music has inspired generations. The contribution of this Ekushey Padak-winning artist to Bangladesh’s cultural heritage will be remembered forever. Her songs will continue to provide nourishment for new thoughts and creations,” he added.

Dr. Yunus prayed for the eternal peace of her departed soul and extended his condolences to her bereaved family.

Parveen, revered for her mastery in Lalon songs, breathed her last at 10:15 pm on Saturday. She leaves behind a legacy of timeless music that shaped the nation’s cultural landscape.
