Dhaka, Sep 07 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has instructed law enforcement agencies to refrain from working for any particular political party, stressing transparency and impartiality in the run-up to the national elections.

He made the remarks while inaugurating an election-related training program at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital on Sunday.

The advisor said, “All issues should be handled patiently and through legal processes. The more transparent we are in our work, the more we will earn the people’s trust.”

Expressing optimism, he added, “I hope the upcoming elections will be peaceful and festive. We must leave behind the memory of past flawed elections, including that of 2018. Corruption and drugs must be reduced in society. Time is limited.”

Criticizing sections of the media, Jahangir Alam said that while government failures receive loud coverage, its successes are rarely highlighted.

On the ongoing Operation Devil Hunt, he stated that lists of fascist elements have been sent to every police station, and security agencies must act against them to ensure stability. He also warned that many criminals, despite securing bail, were re-engaging in unlawful activities and urged strong action.

To ensure fairness, the advisor announced that police transfers and postings before the election will be conducted through a lottery system.

Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Md. Khoda Bakhas Chowdhury also addressed the event, noting that the national elections will serve as the ultimate test for the newly reformed police force after the July–August transition.

Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam echoed the call for neutrality, saying, “This election is a test for the police. All members must perform their duties impartially, even under pressure.”
