Dhaka, Aug 25 (V7N) – Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade, promoting youth and educational exchanges, and reviving SAARC to enhance regional cooperation.
Foreign Minister Dar conveyed the greetings of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif, which Professor Yunus warmly received while recalling his past engagements with Sharif. “Whenever I have met Prime Minister Sharif, we have discussed SAARC. Our vision is the same, and SAARC is a top priority for both of us,” Professor Yunus said.
Emphasizing economic opportunities, Dar noted, “I believe our two economies are complementary. We can work together in many areas.” He also praised Yunus’ global role in poverty alleviation, saying, “Bangladesh is fortunate to have a head of government who is inspiring the world.”
The Chief Adviser underscored the importance of deepening people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges. “When Pakistani singers perform in Bangladesh, everyone appreciates their talent. This is the spirit on which we have to build,” he remarked.
Highlighting connectivity, Dar announced that Pakistan’s Fly Jinnah airline is expected to start direct flights to Dhaka by October, while PIA is also considering resuming services after privatization. He is the first Pakistani foreign minister to visit Bangladesh in 13 years.
Both leaders expressed optimism that stronger trade, cultural exchange, and regional cooperation would help build a more peaceful and prosperous South Asia.
The meeting was also attended by Latfi Siddiqui, Special Envoy of the Chief Adviser on International Affairs.
