COX’S BAZAR, Sept 08 (V7N) — The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has seized 90,000 yaba tablets and Tk 35,20,800 in cash during a raid on a residential premises in Cox’s Bazar.
Two people were arrested in connection with the seizure, while a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody as a child in conflict with the law.
The raid was conducted from 5:50am to 10:00am on Monday at an under-construction building opposite the cemetery gate in Uttar Hajipara, near the Power House area of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila.
The arrested individuals were identified as Ashik Momen Mehedi, 23, and his wife, Sadia Farhana, 23. Both are residents of Teknaf. The 16-year-old boy, identified as Saymon Sarwar, is also from Teknaf.
Somen Mondal, deputy director of the DNC’s Cox’s Bazar district office, said the yaba tablets had been concealed inside a wooden box bed in a room under the control of Ashik Momen Mehedi.
A total of 90,000 yaba tablets, weighing 8.370 kilograms, were recovered from the room, he said.
The authorities also seized Tk 35,20,800 in cash, along with three mobile phones, three empty packets used for storing yaba, one padlock and three keys.
The DNC said it initially suspects that the seized cash was proceeds from the sale of drugs.
Somen Mondal said legal proceedings were under way to file a case against the two arrested individuals with Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station under relevant provisions of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.
