JHALAKATHI, Sept 15 (V7N) — Rafiqul Islam Jamal, Member of Parliament from the Jhalakathi-1 (Kathalia-Rajapur) constituency and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has said the current government has allocated the largest-ever budget for the education sector in Bangladesh’s history.
“We have given priority to education. Alongside education, we have also allocated additional funds to encourage young people to participate in sports,” he said.
Jamal made the remarks on Monday afternoon while addressing a discussion organized by Amua Shahid Raja Degree College in Kathalia upazila of Jhalakathi to mark Nazrul Year.
He said the government had undertaken several initiatives, including the introduction of a “Family Card” programme aimed at helping mothers become financially self-reliant.
“The government has introduced the Family Card for mothers to help meet their needs and support their families. We want to keep mothers happy and fulfil their aspirations through the Family Card so that we can build a better Bangladesh in the future,” he said.
The discussion was chaired by Kathalia Upazila Executive Officer and chairman of the college governing body, Md. Mokbul Hossain. Acting Principal Md. Abdul Halim delivered the welcome address.
Among the special guests were Kathalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Nasher Raihan, Upazila BNP President Md. Jalalur Rahman Akn, General Secretary Akhtar Hossain Nizam Mirbahar, Upazila Freedom Fighters Command Council Convener Md. Fazlul Haque Mridha, Amua Union BNP President Md. Zakir Hossain Goldar and newly elected General Secretary of Kathalia Press Club Md. Faruk Hossain Khan.
College Assistant Professor Md. Yusuf Ali and student Masuma Akter Poly, among others, also spoke at the event.
Before the discussion, MP Jamal inaugurated the foundation stone for construction of a boundary wall at the college.
He later distributed sports equipment among students and planted tree saplings on the college premises.
