Dhaka, July 23 (V7N) – Cultural Affairs Advisor Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui has urged the public to act responsibly in spreading information regarding the tragic plane crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, which has so far claimed 32 lives.
Farooqui shared an emotional Facebook post written by a teacher of the school’s Haider Ali building, who pleaded with social media users to stop spreading misinformation about the number of casualties and missing persons.
In her post, the teacher, who survived the fire, wrote,
"I strongly urge you not to spread wrong information. I was also trapped in the fire. You Facebook users don’t know more than me, right?"
She described the moments before the crash in vivid detail, clarifying that the school dismisses students at 1 PM, and most children had already left. A few children had re-entered the Sky section due to delays in guardian pickup, and some of them perished. Others were believed to have been caught in stairwells or corridors during the tragedy.
The teacher mentioned that the Cloud section had more students at the time, where teachers Mahreen Miss and Masuka Miss died while rescuing students. Another teacher, Mahfuza Miss, is currently on life support.
The post further clarified the condition of other classrooms:
-
Moyna Room: Some injuries, no deaths.
-
Doyel, Tuberose, and Waterlily Rooms: All students are safe.
-
Second Floor: Two classrooms and a teachers' room burned; 10–20 people were there.
The teacher also noted that several children, nannies, and staff who were in open spaces like corridors and entrances remain unaccounted for, with some feared burned beyond recognition.
"You have no idea how these teachers keep the children safe all day long," the teacher wrote.
"Miss Mahreen used to stand at the gate every day until every child was safely handed over to their guardian. Don’t play with people’s emotions. Don’t increase the death toll unnecessarily."
The post ends with a moving appeal:
"The number of deaths will increase in the future—you don’t have to inflate it. Let us all pray for the little flowers lost in the storm. Let us pray for our teachers, staff, and innocent children."
Cultural Advisor Farooqui shared the post in full, urging all citizens to share verified information only, show empathy, and support the grieving families and rescue efforts during this national tragedy.
