Hundreds of residents gathered at the site, offering their respects as grieving relatives broke down in tears. At 3:35 PM, the body was taken to the stadium for funeral rites.
Taukir's father, Tahurul Islam, a businessman originally from Kansat in Chapainawabganj, has lived in Rajshahi for the past 25 years. He led prayers and called for blessings for his late son, as family members and loved ones viewed the body one final time.
Flight Lieutenant Taukir Islam Sagor began his early education at Rajshahi’s New Government Laboratory School before transferring to Pabna Cadet College in class seven. He was part of the college's 34th graduating batch. In 2016, after completing his higher secondary education, he joined the Bangladesh Air Force.
On Monday, July 21, tragedy struck when Taukir’s F-7 BGI fighter jet crashed just 12 minutes after takeoff at 1:06 PM. The aircraft went down on a building at Milestone School and College in Uttara, causing an explosion and a fire that quickly engulfed several classrooms. The crash resulted in multiple casualties, including students, teachers, and school staff, with Flight Lieutenant Taukir among the deceased.
The Bangladesh Air Force and civil aviation authorities have launched an investigation into the crash, which has raised concerns over flight safety and the proximity of flight paths to civilian areas in the capital.
