Dhaka, July 17 (V7N) – The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has firmly denied reports of any internet shutdown or disruption in Gopalganj amid the ongoing political unrest linked to the National Citizens Party (NCP) program.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday (July 16), the ministry reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring uninterrupted mobile and broadband internet services across the country. It emphasized that the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) had not issued any directive to suspend or interfere with internet connectivity in Gopalganj or elsewhere.

"The government’s stance is clear – under no circumstances will internet services be intentionally disrupted," the statement read. "Spreading such claims is baseless and contradicts the current government’s established policy decisions."

The ministry further alleged that "autocratic forces and their allies" may be deliberately spreading false information with malicious intent to mislead the public and destabilize the situation.

Authorities also urged individuals and institutions to exercise caution and verify facts before disseminating information. The statement stressed the importance of responsible communication to preserve national stability and maintain order in public life.

This clarification comes amid widespread protests and reports from some activists alleging temporary internet blackouts in areas of Gopalganj during clashes related to the NCP's ‘March to Gopalganj’ program, which saw at least four fatalities and led to the imposition of a curfew in the area.
