Dhaka, Oct 17 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced Parvez Hossain Emon as the replacement for Liton Das for the ongoing tri-nation ODI series, involving Afghanistan and Zimbabwe apart from Bangladesh.

Liton, the regular skipper of Bangladesh's ODI team, was ruled out of the series with a hip injury today. The 24-year-old Emon has played three ODIs so far after making his debut against Sri Lanka in this format last year. He, however, is a T20 regular for Bangladesh, having played 40 matches.

National team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam confirmed Liton's unavailability in a video message sent by the BCB today, saying the batter had reported discomfort in his right hip joint yesterday. "After that, we conducted his MRI. The report detected some problems in his right hip joint," Bayjedul said. "Despite this, he tried to play after undergoing a fitness test today. But he could not meet the fitness standards we had set. That is why Liton is not available for this series."

Meanwhile, Bangladesh's U-19 team made a winning start to the four-match Youth ODI series against Afghanistan with a 33-run victory in the first match today at Al Amerat Stadium in Oman. Riding on three half-centuries from Rakibul Hossain (79 not out), Ahsan Al Mumin (54) and opener SK Jarif Siyam (50), Bangladesh posted 250-8 after a horrendous start. Rubya Islam Rizon then ripped through the Afghan innings, taking a five-wicket haul to dismiss them for 217 in 48.2 overs. The second match of the series will be held on Monday.
