Boston, Jun 27 (V7N) – France captain Kylian Mbappé has added another remarkable milestone to his World Cup career, surpassing Brazilian legend Pelé in combined goals and assists after scoring twice against Norway in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The French superstar has now been directly involved in 20 World Cup goals, with 16 goals and four assists, making him the second-highest goal contributor in FIFA World Cup history.

Only Argentina captain Lionel Messi remains ahead of Mbappé on the all-time list. Messi has accumulated 27 direct goal contributions across five World Cups, scoring 18 goals and providing nine assists, further extending his legendary record after netting five goals in this year's tournament.

With Mbappé's latest achievement, Pelé drops behind the French forward. The Brazilian icon finished his World Cup career with 19 goal contributions, consisting of 12 goals and seven assists.

Also level on 19 contributions are Germany's Gerd Müller (14 goals, 5 assists), Brazil's Ronaldo Nazário (15 goals, 4 assists), and Germany's Miroslav Klose (16 goals, 3 assists).

In addition to rewriting the record books, Mbappé remains one of the leading contenders for the tournament's Golden Boot. His four goals place him just behind Messi, while Erling Haaland, Ousmane Dembélé and Vinícius Júnior are also among the top scorers with four goals each.

With the knockout stage still to come, the race for individual honors remains wide open. The battle between Messi and Mbappé—two of football's biggest stars—continues to captivate fans, with more records and memorable moments potentially awaiting as the tournament progresses.
