Darwin, Aug 16 (V7N)- Bangladesh are just 57 runs away from a historic Test victory in Australia after bowling out the hosts for 284 in their second innings on the fourth day of the Darwin Test.
Chasing a target of 285, the Tigers need 57 more runs to secure victory. Mehedi Hasan Miraz was the star with the ball, claiming five wickets as Bangladesh's bowlers kept Australia under sustained pressure.
Australia resumed the fourth day's play with Alex Carey and Cameron Green at the crease, holding a 67-run lead.
Bangladesh had an early opportunity when Carey edged Hasan Mahmud's delivery behind the wicket, but wicketkeeper Litton Das could not complete the catch. Carey could not capitalise on the reprieve, however, as Miraz eventually dismissed him for 30.
Miraz then struck again, bowling Beau Webster for just 5 runs before removing Australia captain Pat Cummins for 8.
Cameron Green provided Australia's main resistance. The all-rounder scored a fighting century in an attempt to keep the hosts in the contest, but Hasan Mahmud eventually ended his innings.
Miraz maintained remarkable control over the ball throughout the second innings, while Hasan's pace provided Bangladesh with another crucial breakthrough.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 426 runs in their first innings after Australia were dismissed for 198, giving the Tigers a first-innings lead of 228 runs.
Bangladesh now stand on the brink of what would be a landmark Test victory on Australian soil.
