New Delhi, May 19 (V7N) – In a dramatic move amidst rising Indo-Pak tensions, India has announced its withdrawal from the upcoming Asia Cup, including both the Men’s Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup.

The decision was confirmed by The Indian Express on Monday, citing senior officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

A BCCI official, speaking to the publication, stated:

“The Indian team cannot participate in any tournament hosted by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which is currently headed by a Pakistani minister. This sentiment reflects the broader mood of the nation.”

He further added that India has verbally informed the ACC about its decision to withdraw from the Women's Emerging Asia Cup and hinted at a complete suspension of future participation in ACC-organized events. “We are in regular communication with the government on this matter,” the official said.

The ACC is currently chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Home Minister and the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Analysts warn that India’s exit could deal a significant blow to tournament organizers, broadcasters, and sponsors. The high-profile India-Pakistan clashes are typically the biggest commercial draws, with massive investments already made in media rights and advertising tied to those matches.

With regional geopolitics spilling over into sports once again, the future of Asian cricket tournaments remains uncertain.
