Dhaka, Jun 26 (V7N) – Muslims across the world are observing the holy day of Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, with religious devotion and solemn remembrance. The day holds profound historical and spiritual significance in Islam, particularly for the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
On the 10th of Muharram in 61 AH, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), along with members of his family and companions, was martyred in the plains of Karbala on the banks of the Euphrates River after standing against injustice and tyranny.
The sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) is regarded as one of the most significant events in Islamic history. His unwavering commitment to truth, justice and righteousness continues to inspire millions of Muslims around the world to uphold moral values and resist oppression.
Ashura also marks several other important events in Islamic tradition. Many Muslims observe the day through voluntary fasting, offering special prayers and engaging in acts of charity and remembrance.
Members of the Shia Muslim community commemorate the tragedy of Karbala by organizing Tazia processions, mourning gatherings and religious observances to honor the memory of Imam Hussain (RA) and those who were martyred alongside him.
Religious scholars emphasize that the lessons of Ashura transcend time, reminding humanity of the importance of justice, sacrifice and steadfastness in the face of adversity.
