DHAKA, Aug 4 (V7N) - Inspector General of Police Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has called for deeper cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to enhance Bangladesh Police's cyber capabilities, especially to deal with cyber scams, financial crimes, online fraud and misinformation on social media.
He made the call during a courtesy meeting with a two-member FBI delegation headed by Riley Palmertree at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka today.
At the meeting, the FBI team discussed expanding support to Bangladesh Police in areas such as cyber capacity building, curbing cyber scams, social media monitoring, tackling financial crimes and strengthening technology-based investigations.
The IGP emphasized closer collaboration between the FBI and specialized units of Bangladesh Police, including the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC).
He also highlighted the need for increased FBI assistance in preventing online misinformation, cyber fraud and other emerging threats in the digital space.
Senior officials of Bangladesh Police were also present at the meeting.
