Dhaka , May 05 (V7N) — The Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reported significant progress in recovering evaded taxes, with a total of Tk 532 crore deposited into the state treasury so far in the 2025–2026 fiscal year.
According to official sources, Tk 414 crore of the recovered amount was collected during the current fiscal year alone. The unit, which began formal operations in December 2024, is currently investigating more than 3,300 income tax cases involving alleged tax evasion.
Authorities estimate that around Tk 7,000 crore in unpaid or evaded income tax has been identified through ongoing investigations involving individuals, businesses, and corporate taxpayers across multiple assessment years. Many taxpayers have reportedly settled their dues after the allegations were verified.
Officials said the recoveries were made through enforcement actions and voluntary compliance following investigation outcomes.
Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit Commissioner Dr. Lutfunnahar Begum said officers are working “continuously and with dedication” to uncover tax evasion and strengthen revenue collection.
She added that expanding technical capacity and improving operational efficiency would further enhance the unit’s ability to recover dues and strengthen the national economy.
The NBR noted that the establishment of the intelligence unit marks a major step toward improving tax compliance, reducing evasion, and ensuring transparency in revenue collection.
