Dhaka, April 28 (V7N) — Bangladesh and Belarus have held high-level discussions aimed at opening new doors for skilled and semi-skilled labor migration, alongside deepening cooperation in trade, industry, and defense. The bilateral talks took place today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when the non-resident Ambassador of Belarus to Bangladesh, Mikhail Kasko, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
According to an official press release, the meeting was marked by a shared commitment to modernize the economic partnership between the two nations. The discussions identified several priority sectors for immediate collaboration, including:
Labor & Technology: Expanding pathways for Bangladeshi skilled and semi-skilled workers to Belarus and enhancing cooperation in the Information Technology (IT) sector.
Industry & Agriculture: Strengthening ties in agriculture, textiles, Ready-Made Garments (RMG), pharmaceuticals, and the jute industry.
Defense & Security: Productive dialogue on enhancing bilateral defense cooperation.
State Minister Shama Obaed Islam emphasized that the incumbent government is eager to work closely with Belarus to solidify existing friendly relations. She stressed that strengthening people-to-people contacts is essential for a sustainable long-term partnership.
In response, Ambassador Kasko congratulated the State Minister on her appointment and reaffirmed the Belarus government’s readiness to engage proactively with the new administration in Bangladesh.
To ensure these plans move forward swiftly, both sides agreed to increase the frequency of bilateral mechanisms, such as Foreign Office Consultations (FOC). These regular diplomatic dialogues are expected to expedite the implementation of agreements and address challenges in the identified priority areas.
The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to broaden the scope of Bangladesh-Belarus relations, transforming a traditional friendship into a robust, multi-dimensional economic alliance.
