Dhaka, Apr 29 (V7N) — The government is set to introduce a new initiative to provide free school uniforms, bags, and shoes to primary school students, alongside existing provisions of books and food.

The program will initially be implemented on a pilot basis for Class One students in two government primary schools in each upazila, officials said.

The announcement was made by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam following an inter-ministerial meeting on nationwide distribution of school essentials.

He said that all boys and girls will receive standardized uniforms under the scheme. “All boys’ clothes will be identical, and all girls’ clothes will also follow a uniform design,” he added.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said that the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has agreed to supply materials for around 100,000 primary school students. Other business groups have also pledged support.

Officials said the pilot program is expected to begin in July. After evaluation, the initiative will be expanded to secondary schools and madrasas in later phases.

The government believes the program will reduce financial pressure on parents and help ensure equal access to education materials for all students across the country.
