Cox’s Bazar, Apr 29 (V7N) — Five people, including two children, were injured after being struck by lightning in a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhia, officials said.

The incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Camp No. 9 in the Balukhali settlement.

The injured have been identified as Jannat Ara (1), Rokeya Begum (14), Nur Begum (25), Minara Begum (30), and Ismat Ara (18). All are residents of Camp No. 9.

They were initially taken to an NGO-run medical facility inside the camp. As their condition was reported to be critical, they were later transferred to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital around 11:00 PM for advanced treatment, according to camp official Bashir Ahmed.

Ukhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mujibur Rahman said he had received information about the incident, but detailed reports were still being gathered.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the severity of injuries, and medical treatment is ongoing.
