Dhaka, Oct 05 (V7N)- National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has condemned the reported attack on NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary and the vandalism of his vehicle at the Lalon Shah shrine in Kushtia.

Nahid made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook account on Sunday night, describing the incident as another attack on Patwary and calling for those responsible to be identified and brought to justice.

He alleged that BNP activists were responsible for the attack, saying Patwary had been targeted for the fifth time since the BNP formed the government. The allegation could not be independently verified, while the identities of those involved remained under investigation.

The incident took place at the Lalon Shah shrine in Chheuriya, under Kumarkhali Upazila, on Sunday evening. Police said they received information about the incident and later went to the shrine to bring the situation under control.

According to eyewitnesses cited by local media, a group of youths threw eggs, brick chips and stones at Patwary and his vehicle. His car was also vandalised during the incident.

Patwary was later escorted from the shrine by police and local party activists. Police said several people were involved, but their names and identities would be disclosed only after an investigation. No case had been filed at the police station at the time of initial reporting, according to police.

NCP leaders alleged that Chhatra Dal members were behind the attack. However, a Chhatra Dal leader denied the organisation's involvement, saying the party did not support what he described as mob-style politics and that any individual involved would be personally responsible.

Several videos of the incident circulated on social media, but their authenticity and the identities of people shown in them could not be independently verified.

Nahid called for immediate action against those responsible and said intimidation or repression would not silence Patwary's voice.
