Dhaka, May 09 (V7N) — Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has urged the government of India to ensure that no religion, caste, or ethnic group is targeted for harm.

He made the remarks on Saturday (May 9) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while speaking to journalists after returning from an official visit to Japan.

Shafiqur Rahman said that since India’s constitution is secular, Islam should not be singled out or treated separately in any way. He also emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami stands against any form of oppression, stating that if any innocent group is targeted anywhere in the world, including West Bengal, they would oppose it.

“We stand by the oppressed wherever they are,” he said, adding that injustice against any community is unacceptable.

He also expressed deep concern over the recent incident in Kapasia, where five people were reportedly hacked to death, saying that such incidents reflect a deterioration in the country’s law and order situation.

Speaking about his eight-day visit to Japan, he said he held meetings with officials including the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as representatives of various organizations. Discussions reportedly focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Japan, along with cooperation in skill development, urban infrastructure, and earthquake preparedness.
