Dhaka, Aug 06 (V7N)- Prime Minister’s Political Adviser and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday alleged that India had disrespected the martyrs of the July Uprising by allowing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to address the media.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.
Rizvi said that allowing a fugitive convicted individual to engage in political activities without returning her under existing legal mechanisms was an insult to Bangladesh's national sovereignty.
He further alleged that providing Sheikh Hasina with a platform to engage in politics was harmful to bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India. Rizvi also claimed that allowing her to speak on the anniversary of her departure from office had further strained relations between the two countries.
Commenting on domestic issues, Rizvi said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to address a range of national challenges, including the gas supply situation, the measles outbreak and dengue prevention.
The remarks reflect the views of Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and the BNP. There was no immediate response from the Indian government or Sheikh Hasina regarding the statements at the time of reporting.
