Dhaka, Mar 06 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami staged a protest march in the capital on Friday, calling for the arrest and interrogation of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, former advisor to the outgoing interim government on forests and environment, and Dr. Khalilur Rahman, current BNP government foreign minister, over alleged “election engineering” in the 13th National Parliament elections.
The march, organized by Jamaat’s Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units, began around 2:30 pm from the north gate of Baitul Mukarram and proceeded through central Dhaka streets, drawing attention from local residents and media.
At a pre-march rally, Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar claimed that while citizens had voted enthusiastically after a long gap, some interim government advisors allegedly favored BNP candidates. He said that candidates from Jamaat and the 11-party alliance were reportedly shown to have lost by narrow margins in various constituencies.
Parwar emphasized that Jamaat had accepted the election results “for the good of the country,” but raised concerns that public statements by some advisors regarding election manipulation were sending “the wrong message” to the people. He demanded a judicial investigation into the alleged election engineering involving the two advisors to ensure transparency and provide accurate information to the public.
The protest comes amid ongoing discussions in political circles and on social media regarding alleged irregularities in the parliamentary elections, highlighting growing tensions over electoral transparency in the country.
