Dhaka, Aug 1 (V7N) — New Dhara Bangladesh (NDB) Chairman Momin Mehedi has alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) are staging various attacks and legal cases because they are failing to gain public acceptance as opposition parties.
Speaking at a protest rally held in front of the party’s office on Topkhana Road on Thursday evening (July 31), Mehedi said, “If anyone wants to make July greater than the Liberation War of 1971, there will be a struggle.”
He claimed that the July movement, which he said brought “war criminals” into parliament and harmed the future of students, has already been rejected by the people.
Mehedi further alleged that educational institutions across the country have been handed over to “extremists” in the name of the July movement, disrupting academic activities. He also criticized the current situation, saying rising commodity prices, corruption, violence, and social unrest have become major concerns.
The rally was attended by NDB Presidium Member and freedom fighter Fazlul Haque, Senior Vice Chairman Shanta Farzana, Vice Chairman Chandan Sengupta, Joint Secretary General Wazed Rana, among others.
Speakers at the event claimed that NCP leaders, who they said rose to power by using the sentiments of the July movement, have failed to attract public support. They alleged that people across the country have rejected their politics.
They further said that public dissatisfaction has grown as people have allegedly realized what they described as political deception. The speakers also criticized Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatra Shibir, and NCP, accusing them of misleading people.
The allegations were made during the protest rally; no immediate response from Jamaat-e-Islami or NCP was available.
