Dhaka, Jan 31 (V7N) — Nasiruddin Patwari, candidate of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) for the Dhaka-8 constituency, compared local extortionists to notorious cartel figures, vowing to bring them under the law.

Patwari made the remarks while speaking to reporters during his campaign on Saturday morning. “There is someone like Pablo Escobar in Dhaka-8. No matter how powerful they are, we will ensure they are brought under the law. They wake up in the morning and start extorting people in the name of Allah,” he said.

He described encountering uncivilized behavior in the area, saying, “Here I have come across many people who speak like gangsters. They have not learned to respect others. I am in the age of ignorance. Just as there is a gangster like Dawood Ibrahim in Pakistan, similar figures have emerged here too.”

Patwari urged voters to use their ballot to restore civility and justice in the constituency. “Through voting on February 12, we want to be free from the age of ignorance. We want to free our people from those who behave rudely and terrorize the community,” he said.

Referring to his election manifesto, he highlighted key priorities for Dhaka-8: the trial of Shaheed Osman Hadi, combating terrorism, creating a drug-free and extortion-free society, improving healthcare for women facing harassment, and stopping unlawful occupation of schools.

“Our agenda focuses on education, health, drainage systems, and resolving the crisis in raw markets. But number one is justice for Shaheed Osman Hadi, followed by tackling terrorism and improving public safety,” Patwari added.
