Dhaka, Jan 27 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami has announced that it will organize a women’s rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on January 31 to protest alleged harassment, attacks, and obstruction faced by women workers of the party during election activities across the country. The rally is being organized by the party’s central women’s department.

The announcement was made by Jamaat’s Naib-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher at a press conference on the ground floor of the party’s central office on Tuesday.

Dr. Taher said the protest rally will begin at 10:30 am on January 31. “This is the first time that our women’s organization workers will be forced to come out in public and protest,” he added.

He warned that if the peaceful environment is not restored, the main party and the 11-party alliance may organize stricter programs in response.

The Jamaat leader alleged that women workers of the party are being attacked nationwide and claimed that the opposition fears women will vote for Jamaat. “Those who talk about women’s freedom the most are the ones who are harassing women,” he said.

Dr. Taher also emphasized the role of political parties, alongside the government, in ensuring free and fair elections, and cautioned that forcing power could lead to negative consequences for the country.
