Dhaka, Jan 21 (V7N) — Leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami staged a protest march in the Pirerbagh area of Dhaka-15 constituency on Wednesday (January 21) morning, alleging harassment and attacks on female party workers.

The protest march was held along the 60 Feet Road in the capital, with participation from Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists. The procession was led by Jamaat Central Executive Council member Md. Mubarak Hossain.

From the march, the leaders demanded the immediate identification and arrest of those responsible for the alleged attacks. They warned of stricter agitation programs if their demands were not met.

Meanwhile, allegations have surfaced regarding attempts to collect confidential voter information and bKash numbers in the area. Commenting on the issue, BNP Central Election Management Committee spokesperson Mahdi Amin said at a briefing in Gulshan that any attempt to collect confidential voter information is unacceptable. He also condemned the clashes that took place in the Dhaka-15 constituency.

According to sources, a clash broke out on Tuesday evening between leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in Pirerbagh following allegations that female Jamaat workers were harassed while campaigning for a candidate. BNP alleged that Jamaat activists were collecting voters’ NID details and mobile phone numbers, which led to protests and subsequent clashes.

As a result of the incident, at least 16 people were injured, several of whom are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals. Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman later visited the injured at the hospital.
