Dhaka, Jan 08 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has described the killing of a volunteer party leader in the capital as an isolated incident, while expressing concern that “fallen fascist forces” are attempting to destabilize law and order to disrupt Bangladesh’s democratic journey.

He made the remarks on Thursday in response to journalists’ questions at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

On Wednesday night, Azizur Rahman Musabbir, former general secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Volunteer Party, was shot dead by unidentified attackers. Another individual, Abu Sufian Bepari Masud, who was with Musabbir at the time, was also shot.

Salahuddin Ahmed said that despite several recent isolated incidents, they are unlikely to affect the upcoming elections. “All political parties are committed to the elections. If anyone has complaints regarding a level playing field, they can report them to the Election Commission,” he added.

Regarding BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s district-to-district tour, Salahuddin said Rahman will visit North Bengal to pay tribute to the martyrs of the coup, emphasizing that the party is strictly adhering to the election code of conduct.

The BNP leader also acknowledged that as a large political party, it has not yet been possible to finalize nominations for many qualified candidates. Organizational measures have been taken against those who have acted as rebel candidates, he said.
