Dhaka, Nov 28 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that his party has “no experience in stealing people’s wealth, extorting party workers, occupying institutions or engaging in corruption from top to bottom at any level.”
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a youth, student and citizen gathering organized by Jamaat-e-Islami for the Dhaka-17 constituency in the capital’s Bhashantek area on Friday morning (November 28).
The Jamaat Ameer said that in the upcoming national election, people will vote for those “whose programs they trust and whose statements they believe.” He added that Jamaat is already preparing to congratulate the candidates chosen by the people.
‘Fascism Has Fallen, But Not Completely Eradicated’
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman warned that although the previous authoritarian system has collapsed, its remnants still remain. He identified five signs of fascism that, according to him, continue to exist:
-
Corruption
-
Extortion
-
Occupation
-
Violence targeting women’s honor
-
Attempts to destabilize the country
He asserted that if Jamaat comes to power, a government will be formed in collaboration with all anti-fascist political forces. “We do not want to see a divided nation anymore,” he said.
‘The New Bangladesh Will Not Run on the Old Formula’
The Jamaat Ameer stated that Bangladeshis no longer want to see “rotten politics.” He emphasized that a future Bangladesh would require new ideas and a people-centric government, adding that Jamaat “does not run away from an Islamic country.”
Accusing opponents of plotting to ban Jamaat from politics, he said:
“We were like migrants within our own country. We held onto this soil with our hands and hearts. We were jailed, we sacrificed lives, but we did not flee.”
He also warned that “old terrorists may return in new forms,” but claimed that no one would be able to erase the affection Jamaat has built in the hearts of its supporters.
