Dhaka, Nov 14 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami Nayebe Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has alleged that the interim government is no longer maintaining neutrality. He accused the administration of working to “somehow bring a particular party to power” through the upcoming elections.
He made the remarks on Friday at a joint press conference of eight like-minded parties held in Moghbazar, responding to the Chief Advisor’s recent national address.
Dr. Taher claimed that under the current circumstances, it is not possible for the government to hold a fair election. He said the Chief Advisor’s initiatives appeared to give priority to the demands of the BNP. “National elections and a referendum cannot be held together under any circumstances,” he added, calling for the referendum date to be announced separately.
He further stated that the Chief Advisor’s speech ignored the obligation to fully implement the July Charter, which all sides had agreed upon earlier.
The Jamaat leader said the alliance of eight parties will announce a new programme regarding their five-point demands after their meeting on Sunday.
