Dhaka, Nov 12 (V7N) — The eight-party alliance, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has issued an ultimatum until Sunday (November 16) for the government to accept their five-point demand, which includes issuing an order to hold a referendum and implementing the July National Charter before the upcoming elections.
The announcement came at a joint press conference held at the Al Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar, Dhaka, on Thursday (November 12).
Leaders of the alliance warned that if their demands are not met within the given timeframe, they will launch an indefinite sit-in program in front of Jamuna, the official residence of the Chief Advisor.
According to the announcement, protest marches will be held at the district and metropolitan levels across the country on Friday in support of the demands. The top leaders of the alliance are scheduled to meet at 11 a.m. on Sunday, followed by a press conference at noon, where they plan to declare further action if the demands remain unmet.
Speaking at the briefing, Golam Parwar said Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has expressed hope that the political crisis can be resolved through dialogue with the eight parties. “We have already sought a meeting with the Chief Advisor, and we believe this will help end the ongoing deadlock,” he said.
He further alleged that “friends of fascists” are attempting to create instability through acts of sabotage, including recent incidents of bus arson and cocktail explosions.
Taking this into consideration, the alliance leaders announced that they would remain on the streets to prevent any sabotage or unrest.
