Dhaka, Oct 07 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said that while there is no concern about the upcoming February elections, the implementation of reforms outlined in the July Charter is crucial to ensure a fair and acceptable vote.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the VIP gate of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday (October 7) morning, upon returning from his visit to the United Nations as part of the advisor’s delegation.
Dr. Taher said the participation of leaders from various political parties alongside the Chief Advisor during the UN visit reflected the unity and collective responsibility of Bangladesh’s political leadership.
“I do not see any concern about the February elections. However, I urge the government to make the polls acceptable through proper reforms. The implementation of the July Charter is essential before the elections,”
said Dr. Taher.
He also emphasized that those obstructing reform efforts or attempting to delay the elections are going against public interest. “The elections must be held on the basis of reforms — Bangladesh is united for the needs of the state,” he added.
In addition, the Jamaat leader urged the Election Commission to take necessary steps to ensure that Bangladeshi expatriates can cast their votes easily from abroad.
It is noteworthy that five political leaders accompanied the Chief Advisor to New York for the 80th UN General Assembly as part of the government delegation. They included BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Acting Chairman’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Jatiya Nagorik Party Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, and NCP Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara.
