Chattogram, Nov 5,  (V7N) – Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Administrator Dr Shahadat Hossain on Thursday called for the leadership and participation of young volunteers to be brought into a formal institutional framework to address disaster risks, such as landslides, in Chattogram city.

He made the call while attending a dialogue titled "Institutionalizing the Voice and Leadership of Youth in Proactive Disaster Management" as the chief guest at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram.

He said that reducing disaster-related damage requires trained young people to help spread early warnings, raise public awareness and strengthen community-level preparedness. Their work, he added, must be integrated into the local government's formal disaster management system.

The event was organised by Young Power in Social Action (YPSA). Dr Shahadat Hossain noted that effective disaster management involves more than immediate rescue operations. It also depends on proactive preparation and early warning systems, areas where trained young volunteers can play a vital role. Engineer Belayet, Chairman of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA); Professor Dr Md Al Amin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Chattogram; Dr Md Arifur Rahman, Founder and Chief Executive of YPSA; and Jabed Miadad, a manager at Save the Children, among others, were present on the occasion.
