Dhaka, Nov 3,  (V7N) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator and valiant freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam on Tuesday called on private sector organisations to play a more active role in waste management and urban beautification to build a clean, environment-friendly and liveable city.

"Building a clean and liveable Dhaka is not the sole responsibility of the city corporation; city dwellers also have an equal responsibility. It is not possible to build a clean city without active public cooperation," he said.

The Administrator made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony held at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium to hand over 300 durable and attractive waste bins to the DSCC under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Bengal Commercial Bank.

He said the city corporation would discharge its responsibility for maintaining cleanliness, while citizens should also develop the habit of disposing of waste at designated places. Public awareness and responsible behaviour are crucial in this regard.

Appreciating the initiative of Bengal Commercial Bank, he said banks, insurance companies and other corporate organisations should come forward to contribute to urban development. The private sector could play an important role in greening and beautifying road medians and open spaces.

He also stressed the importance of the media's constructive role in raising public awareness, saying that Dhaka could be transformed into a green, clean and modern city through collective efforts.

The 300 modern waste bins donated by Bengal Commercial Bank are expected to facilitate urban waste management and encourage citizens to dispose of waste at designated places.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Khaybar Rahman, Bengal Commercial Bank Managing Director K M Awlad Hossain, departmental heads and senior officials of the DSCC, and representatives of Bengal Commercial Bank attended the programme.
