Naikhongchhari, Oct 20 (V7N) – The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has stepped up search and surveillance operations along the Bangladesh–Myanmar border in Bandarban’s Naikhongchhari to curb the smuggling of drugs, arms, and illegal crossings.

Under the jurisdiction of the Ramu Sector of Cox’s Bazar Region, the 34 BGB Battalion has increased inspection activities at all key checkpoints along the border. BGB personnel remain on high alert around the clock to ensure tight border security and prevent any illegal movements.

According to sources, there has been growing concern over the potential trafficking of yaba tablets, crystal meth, and gold through various routes along the Myanmar frontier. Additionally, an increase in unauthorized border crossings has prompted BGB to tighten surveillance across several strategic checkpoints.

In response, heightened intelligence monitoring has been introduced at key points such as Ghumdhum, Tumbru, Baishfari, and Amtali. Patrol teams are conducting routine searches of suspicious individuals, vehicles, and goods. When necessary, specialized intelligence units are also joining the operations to strengthen security measures.

Lieutenant Colonel S.M. Khairul Alam, commanding officer of the 34 BGB Battalion, stated that the force remains in the highest state of readiness to protect national borders and combat drug trafficking. “No illegal infiltration or smuggling activity will be tolerated in any part of the Naikhongchhari border zone,” he said.

He added that BGB has urged local residents to cooperate by reporting any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest BGB outpost. “Community participation is crucial to maintaining border security,” he emphasized.

Local residents have reported noticeable improvements in the security situation following the intensified BGB operations. However, they believe that maintaining continuous vigilance is essential to achieving a long-term solution against the trafficking of drugs and weapons.
