Bandarban, Oct 13 (V7N) – A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member was seriously injured when a landmine exploded along the Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban district. He has been airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.
The injured soldier has been identified as Nayek Md. Akhtar Hossain. According to BGB sources, the explosion occurred around 10:40 a.m. on Sunday while he was on a routine patrol near the Tumbru frontier. As he stepped on a hidden landmine, it detonated, causing severe injuries.
Fellow BGB members immediately rescued him and transported him to the CMH located at Ramu Cantonment for initial treatment. Following medical evaluation, he was airlifted to Dhaka by a BGB helicopter at 4:12 p.m. on Monday, October 13, for specialized care.
BGB officials said the risk of landmine explosions has increased recently due to ongoing armed conflicts inside Myanmar, close to the Bangladesh border. In response, the force has strengthened surveillance and issued heightened security alerts across the area.
Lieutenant Colonel S. M. Khairul Alam, commanding officer of the 34 BGB Battalion, confirmed the incident and stated that the injured soldier was transferred to Dhaka CMH for advanced treatment.
Preliminary reports suggest that the explosion occurred near a section of the border where frequent clashes inside Myanmar have led to the presence of unexploded ordnance and landmines. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further casualties.
