Bandarban, Oct 12 (V7N) – A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member was critically injured on Saturday following a powerful landmine explosion along the Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban district. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. near border pillar No. 41.
The injured soldier was identified as Nayek Akhtar Hossain (ID No. 62126), who was stationed at the Reju Amtali Border Outpost (BOP) under the 34th BGB Battalion. According to BGB sources, the explosion took place while he was patrolling near a proposed temporary BGB camp inside Bangladeshi territory.
The blast caused severe injuries, completely severing his right ankle and inflicting deep wounds on his left leg. Fellow soldiers immediately rescued him and transported him to the Ramu Military Hospital in Cox’s Bazar, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Local sources confirmed that regular BGB patrols were ongoing in the Reju Amtali border zone at the time of the explosion. Authorities are investigating how the landmine ended up in the area and whether it originated from across the Myanmar border.
Lt. Col. S.M. Khairul Alam, commanding officer of the 34th BGB Battalion in Cox’s Bazar, confirmed the incident and said further details will be released following an internal investigation.
The injured soldier, Nayek Akhtar Hossain, is a resident of Ghumdhum Union in Naikhongchhari upazila, Bandarban district.
In recent weeks, several incidents of gunfire exchanges and landmine explosions have been reported along the Tumbru and Ghumdhum border areas near Myanmar, heightening security concerns and spreading fear among local residents.
