DHAKA, June 27, (V7N) – River water levels across Bangladesh are predominantly on the rise, with 73 stations monitored by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) reporting an increase, while 43 stations showed a fall. Five out of 119 monitored river stations recorded stable water levels, and crucially, none are currently flowing above the danger mark, according to a bulletin issued by the FFWC today.
The Surma-Kushiyara rivers are experiencing rising water levels, a trend expected to stabilize for the next 24 hours before beginning to recede over the subsequent two days. Moderate to moderately heavy rainfall is anticipated in this basin for the next three days.
Similarly, the Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers are seeing an upward trend in water levels, a pattern projected to continue for the next four days. Despite this rise, these major rivers are expected to remain below their respective danger levels.
The Ganges and Padma rivers are also on a rising trajectory, a trend forecast to persist for the next five days.
In the Chattogram Division, the Gomti, Muhuri, and Feni rivers are currently stable, while the Halda, Sangu, and Matamuhuri rivers are showing a decrease in water levels. All rivers in this region are flowing below the danger level. The FFWC predicts that the water levels of these rivers will remain stable for the next 24 hours, followed by a rise over the subsequent two days. The bulletin indicates a likelihood of moderate-heavy to heavy rainfall in this basin over the next three days.
