Dhaka, Jan 15 (V7N) — Students from seven government colleges resumed their protest by blocking the Science Laboratory intersection in the capital on Thursday, demanding approval of the updated draft of the proposed Dhaka Central University ordinance and the immediate issuance of a final ordinance by the President.
According to the previously announced program, students of Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College and Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College took position at the Science Lab intersection after 12:30 pm on Thursday (January 15). As a result, vehicular movement in the surrounding areas came to a complete halt, causing severe traffic congestion. Many commuters were seen walking to their destinations due to the blockade.
In addition to the Science Lab intersection, students from the seven colleges are also scheduled to enforce similar blockade programs at the Technical intersection and the Tantibazar intersection in Old Dhaka from noon.
The protesting students said their blockade will continue indefinitely until their demand is fulfilled. They stated that despite the earlier announcement regarding the formation of Dhaka Central University by affiliating the seven colleges, the issuance of the final ordinance has been delayed, prompting them to intensify their movement.
The students emphasized that their protest revolves around a single-point demand — the immediate issuance of the final ordinance — and warned that they would not vacate the roads until a specific announcement is made.
The renewed protest has once again caused widespread inconvenience to city residents, particularly students, office-goers and patients, as traffic movement on key routes of the capital remains disrupted.
