GAZIPUR, May 21 (V7N) – Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah, Vice-Chancellor of National University, was allegedly attacked on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, by students demanding an "auto-pass" for the 2022 Undergraduate (PASS) course. The incident occurred around 12 noon as the Vice-Chancellor was exiting his car at the administrative building gate on the National University campus.
According to a press release from the National University's Public Relations Office, a group of candidates surrounded the Vice-Chancellor, and "some miscreants hiding among them tried to attack the Vice-Chancellor with malicious intent." Dr. Amanullah reportedly sustained minor injuries during the incident.
The university's statement clarified that the students of this particular Undergraduate (PASS) course had previously caused disturbances on campus with similar demands for an auto-pass. However, the university maintained a firm stance against it, and the examination for the course was subsequently held, with a 69 percent pass rate.
The press release further noted that students of this batch had already been granted grace marks in consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic and political unrest. Additionally, they were provided an opportunity for re-evaluation of their results, which are expected to be published this month. Despite these concessions, "some unsuccessful students of this batch have again come up with the demand for auto-pass and suddenly launched a heinous attack on the Vice-Chancellor of the National University today," the statement read.
The National University has issued a clear declaration that "under no circumstances will the National University give any auto-pass to any student of any batch." University authorities have initiated steps to identify those involved in the attack and plan to file a case with the local Gacha police station.
