TEKNAF, June 16, 2026 (V7N) – The Coast Guard has recovered 10 live grenades, 28 rounds of bullets, and 2 kg of marijuana during a raid in the border area adjacent to the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. Teknaf Coast Guard Station Commander Lieutenant Moktadin Siddiqui provided this information at a press briefing held at the salt field adjacent to the Jadimura Buddhist Temple in Teknaf at around 1:30 pm on Sunday. The raid was conducted on Saturday night.

Lieutenant Moktadin Siddiqui said the secret operation resulted in the recovery of weapons and drugs hidden by an armed group from Myanmar. During the operation, 2 36M MK-1 hand grenades used by the Myanmar military, 8 40mm HEDP grenades, and 28 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered from the ground in the Jadimura area. Two kilograms of marijuana were also seized from the same location.

The armed group members fled in the darkness after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, making it impossible to arrest anyone. However, the Coast Guard said intelligence surveillance is continuing to identify and arrest them. The briefing also informed that if these recovered destructive ammunition had fallen into the wrong hands, it could have caused extensive damage to lives and property.

Through this operation, the Coast Guard has prevented possible sabotage activities along the border. The process of handing over the recovered grenades, bullets, and narcotics to the concerned agencies for further legal action is underway. The Coast Guard said their operations and surveillance will continue to prevent illegal infiltration, drug and human trafficking, and the activities of armed groups in the Bangladesh-Myanmar maritime border and Naf River area.

The recovery of such a large cache of weapons and drugs highlights the ongoing security challenges along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. The Coast Guard's continued vigilance and intelligence-based operations are crucial for maintaining border security and preventing transnational crime in the region.
