MADARIPUR, Feb 12, (V7N) – The results of the three parliamentary constituencies in Madaripur district have been announced, with BNP candidates unofficially winning two seats and an 11-party alliance candidate securing one.
Madaripur Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Md. Jahangir Alam declared the results at his office around 1:00 am on Thursday.
According to official sources, Khilafat Majlis candidate Syed Ubin Ahmad Hanzala, contesting with the rickshaw symbol, won the Madaripur-1 constituency by securing 64,909 votes. His nearest rival, Paddy Sheaf candidate Nadira Akhter Mithu Chowdhury, received 64,524 votes, making the contest narrowly decided.
In Madaripur-2, Paddy Sheaf candidate Jahandar Ali Mia was unofficially elected after obtaining 61,744 votes. Independent candidate Milton Vaidya finished as the runner-up with 46,476 votes.
Meanwhile, in Madaripur-3, Paddy Sheaf candidate Anisur Rahman Khokon Talukder won the seat with 96,128 votes. His closest competitor, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Maulana Rafiqul Islam, secured 84,646 votes.
Returning Officer Md. Jahangir Alam said that voting and vote counting in all three constituencies were conducted in a fair and peaceful manner. He added that the official gazette notification listing the elected members of parliament will be published soon in the public interest.
