Joypurhat, Dec 27 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) successfully stopped an attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to erect a barbed wire fence in violation of international border laws in the Ghonapara area of the Uchna border in Panchbibi upazila, Joypurhat. The BSF later withdrew in the face of BGB intervention.
According to local sources, the BSF tried to install the fence on Saturday (December 27) near sub-pillars 47, 48, and 49 of the main border pillar number 281 under Kaya BOP. Locals alerted the BGB when they noticed the work, prompting members from the Joypurhat-20 BGB battalion to rush to the spot and halt the operation.
A flag meeting was subsequently held between the BGB and BSF. During the meeting, the BSF assured that it would stop construction and remove any installed fencing. The BGB also formally protested the incident.
Joypurhat-20 BGB Assistant Director Mohammad Imran Hossain said, “The BSF attempted to build a fence in violation of border law. The BGB remains strict on this issue and will take all necessary steps to protect the sovereignty of the country.”
This marks the third consecutive attempt by the BSF to erect a barbed wire fence in this area, all of which have been successfully blocked by the BGB.
