Jhalokathi, Oct 25 (V7N) – A daylong cleanliness and mosquito-control campaign was conducted across Jhalokathi to prevent the spread of dengue, protect public health and ensure a cleaner environment. Four cases were filed during the drive, and a total of Tk 5,000 in fines was collected through mobile courts for violations of rules and regulations.
The campaign was organised by the district administration on Saturday as part of the nationwide “Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign 2026,” conducted under the directives of the Cabinet Division.
According to the district administration, the campaign included rallies, leaflet distribution and public announcements to raise awareness about dengue prevention. Larvicide was sprayed to destroy Aedes mosquito breeding sites, while fogging machines were used to control adult mosquitoes.
Cleaning activities were also carried out around government and private institutions, residential premises and roads to remove accumulated rubbish and other waste.
Jhalokathi Deputy Commissioner Md Momin Uddin visited and monitored the campaign activities on the ground. During the inspection, he instructed the relevant departments to strengthen cleanliness operations, ensure regular monitoring and intensify public awareness efforts to prevent dengue.
Mobile courts were also operated during the campaign to enforce rules and maintain discipline. Four cases were recorded, resulting in fines totalling Tk 5,000.
A district administration official said public awareness and active participation were essential alongside government initiatives to prevent dengue. Residents were urged to keep their homes, yards and surrounding areas clean and prevent water from accumulating in containers and other places where Aedes mosquitoes can breed.
The district administration said such coordinated campaigns would continue, with regular monitoring and public participation, to help build a cleaner, safer and dengue-free Jhalokathi.
