Pabna, Oct 30 (V7N) – A former employee of The Ibn Sina Pharmaceutical Industry Ltd has alleged that he was unfairly dismissed after reporting corruption and irregularities within the company. He also claims that he and his family have faced threats, forcing them to live in fear and move from place to place.

Shamsul Haque, a former assistant security supervisor at the company, said he had worked at its head office for nearly 19 years before losing his job in 2024. He is now struggling to support his wife and children and has sought government intervention, alleging that he has been threatened for taking legal action.

Haque, a resident of Mir Kamari Dakshinpara village in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna, made the allegations at a press conference at Pabna Press Club on Wednesday afternoon, October 28. He appealed for personal security, an investigation into the alleged corruption and reinstatement of his job, along with repayment of money deducted from his salary.

According to Haque and documents relating to his complaints, he joined The Ibn Sina Pharmaceutical Industry Ltd in 2005 and worked as an assistant security supervisor at its head office until 2024.

During his employment, he said, he noticed various irregularities and corrupt practices within the organisation and reported them to the appropriate authorities.

He alleged that some influential officials became hostile towards him and began harassing him. He further claimed that Tk 5,750 was deducted from his monthly salary as retaliation for raising concerns about corruption.

According to his account, nearly Tk 3 lakh was deducted from his salary over a period of four years and three months between 2021 and 2024.

Haque said he submitted a written application to the company's managing director on August 8, 2022, seeking an end to the salary deductions, but received no effective response.

After failing to resolve the matter, he sent a legal notice through a Supreme Court lawyer on August 25, 2024, to the company's chairman, managing director and 13 other officials. He alleged that the notice concerned corruption within the organisation and the failure to take action after he reported it.

He claimed that he was dismissed in September 2024 without being served a show-cause notice or being given a proper explanation or opportunity to defend himself.

On January 25 this year, he submitted written complaints to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and several government offices, seeking action over the alleged irregularities. However, he said he had yet to receive an effective remedy.

Haque further alleged that some of the officials named in his complaints threatened to make him disappear because he had approached different authorities.

He said that after being transferred from the company's Dhaka head office to its Rangpur factory, he faced further threats and sought police assistance.

On October 12 this year, he filed a general diary (GD) and sought legal assistance at Kotwali Police Station under Rangpur Metropolitan Police, according to his account.

He also claimed that earlier attempts to file GDs at Ishwardi and Pabna Sadar police stations had been unsuccessful, alleging that the officers-in-charge refused to accept them on the instructions of higher authorities. The reasons for the alleged refusals were not immediately known.

Speaking emotionally at the press conference, Haque described the hardship his family has faced since he lost his job.

He said he was struggling to provide food for his wife and children and that they often had to survive on rice water without vegetables. He added that they had gone without fish and eggs for an extended period.

“I am also a human being, and I have the right to justice. I am moving from place to place out of fear for my life and in the hope of getting justice,” he said.

Through the media, he appealed to the government to investigate the alleged corruption at The Ibn Sina Pharmaceutical Industry Ltd, take action against those responsible, restore his employment and return the money deducted from his salary.

Attempts to contact several officials of The Ibn Sina Pharmaceutical Industry Ltd for comment were unsuccessful.
