Gazipur, Dec 28 (V7N) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Jalal Uddin Dulu in connection with the strangulation murder of his wife, Mastura Akter Suma, and instructing her father over the phone to retrieve the body. The joint operation by RAB-1 and RAB-13 apprehended Dulu from Ramkrishna Mondolpara, Rajarhat police station area in Kurigram on Saturday afternoon.
According to authorities, after killing his wife, a garment factory worker, Dulu covered her body with a blanket, locked it inside their home, and fled to hide. RAB officers launched an immediate investigation and arrested him within 24 hours of the incident, said Md. Rakib Hasan, Senior Assistant Director (Media Officer) of RAB-1.
The incident took place Thursday night in Chandana Haji Market, Ward-17 of Gazipur city. Dulu strangled his wife following an argument. The next morning, he called his father-in-law, Mirajul Islam, informing him, “I have killed your daughter. Her body is inside; come and take it.” Upon hearing this, the family alerted relatives and the police. Suma’s body was subsequently recovered from the locked house.
Police and family sources confirmed that Dulu, originally from Naraill, Rangpur, was married to Mirajul Islam’s daughter. The couple worked at Tex Euro BD Garments in Chandana and resided on the third floor of Ramiz Villa, owned by Ramiz Ali.
Officer-in-Charge Harun Or Rashid of Basin Police Station stated that Suma had returned home from work at 10 pm on Thursday and prepared dinner. Dulu returned at midnight, and following an argument, strangled his wife and fled the scene. The body was discovered the next morning, wrapped in a blanket. It has been sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Following the incident, Mirajul Islam filed a case at Basan Police Station on Friday night. The case details indicate the murder resulted from dowry-related disputes and domestic conflicts. RAB launched a shadow investigation, which led to Dulu’s arrest while he was in hiding.
Dulu is being brought from Rangpur and will be presented before the court on Sunday. Authorities confirmed that further investigation is ongoing.
